Course Description

Foundation Seminar 1 introduces students to key concepts in critical thinking, creative inquiry, and interdisciplinary exploration within the visual arts. Through close reading, discussion, and hands-on projects, students will engage with global, historical, and multicultural perspectives in art and design, analyzing how different societies create and interpret visual culture. The course emphasizes developing a shared vocabulary for discussing and critiquing creative work, while encouraging risk-taking and experimentation. Students will also begin to build the foundational skills necessary for research and creative practice, aligning with PNCA's core learning outcomes. This seminar fosters an environment where students can explore creative identities and begin to contextualize their practice within broader artistic and social frameworks.
