Emphasis is on figurative representation in this course. Building on the Observational Painting course a contemporary atelier approach in which observational painting skills are fostered and achieved through the study of human form with applied rigor, repetition and practice. Paint application materials, techniques and applications begun in PA261 are applied to this course. Based on time honored craft techniques, an atelier experience is updated to engage with content directly and build in thematic considerations of place, cultural and personal identity, social and climate activism, and the politics of representation through an engagement with contemporary painting and drawing as a platform to center and give visual voice to these issues.
