Philosophy Capstone

Humanities Philosophy Willamette College

Course Description

Ordinarily, a student will complete a Capstone project in an area in which an upper-division course is being offered. The Capstone student will not enroll in that course directly, but in a section of PHIL-498W created especially for the Capstone student and indicating in its name the subject of the Capstone project. The Capstone student will attend the upper-division course, but instead of completing the assignments asked of students enrolled in it, the Capstone student will, under the instructor's supervision, complete a Capstone paper and make a Capstone presentation to the class. PHIL 498W typically will be taken in the student's senior year and after successful completion of both PHIL 230 and PHIL 231. In special circumstances, a student may, with departmental approval, write a Capstone paper in an area in which no upper-division course is then being offered.
