This course serves as an introduction to policy studies that focuses on change agents within policy systems as well as the ways that policy decisions and designs affect our experience of government. We use a variety of policy case studies (e.g. immigration, election, housing, child welfare) to highlight federal and state level policy-making opportunities and challenges. Throughout the course, we identify the system levers for affecting policies and ask: Does policy matter when so many norms and processes are in upheaval? Can current policy theories adequately account for the changes we are currently experiencing?
